Once in Mali Ston, it’s just a short walk to the dock where you’ll board a boat that will transport you across the pristine natural landscape of the protected ecosystem of Mali Ston Bay and its small islets to your destination—a local oyster and mussel farm.
Upon your arrival at the oyster farm, you will meet a guide and local oyster farmer who will share his extensive family knowledge (and maybe a few trade secrets) in farming shellfish. Throughout the tour, you will hear stories about the region, its ecosystem and the environmental benefits (and challenges) of oyster farming and sustainable food in general.
The ecological benefits of oyster agriculture are many, including the growing process that uses almost no greenhouse gas emissions, water, feed, fertilizer, or food. Following a fascinating tour of the oyster farm, you’ll get to engage your palate with a tasting of fresh oysters and mussels, along with a glass of a local wine
