One of eight islands in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi’s western region, Sir Bani Yas Island was established in 1971 as a Royal Nature Reserve. It’s packed with all sorts of wildlife – including gazelles, hyenas and cheetahs at the Arabian wildlife Park, 42 historical sites, miles of beaches and endless adventure activities.

An Arabian safari

The Arabian Wildlife Park occupies more than half of the island, and is home to more than 17,000 free-roaming animals. You can enjoy a tour it in a 4×4 land cruiser with expert guides, spotting many different species, from gazelles, giraffes and cheetahs to endangered Arabian oryx and indigenous wild birds. It’s a stunning experience.

Uncover hidden histories

This ancient island is home to the UAE’s only discovered Christian monastery, thought to have been built around 600AD, and discovered in 1992. The buildings here are the earliest known evidence of Christianity in the UAE. You can discover more about the history of the area and the lifestyle of its inhabitants, and have the chance to view the artefacts that have been unearthed.
